Redford Cemetery Association

SPRING SUPPLEMENTAL WORKDAY 2006

DATE: 22 APRIL 2006

TIME:  1:00pm-4:30pm

LOCATION: Redford Cemetery

Volunteers met at the cemetery at 1:00 on a lovely Saturday afternoon.  In a little over three hours all large sticks were removed from the cemetery grounds and collected for chipping in May, and much of the old section of the cemetery was raked.  Additionally, garbage was collected from the interior of the fence and remaining grave blankets were gathered and removed.

One of the dozens of wheelbarrow loads of sticks that were collected.

Regrettably, it was again necessary to haul out a large number of grave blankets and other wintertime grave decorations.  Though it has been emphasized before, these items must be removed by April 15th or the lot holder will be assessed a removal fee.  We did not write down the lots where the decorations were found, but starting in 2007 we will be enforcing this policy rigorously.

We had an extra helper - a local dog belonging to some intoxicated folks who spent the better portion of the day hanging out in the cemetery.  They were very polite and even offered to help clean up the cemetery grounds.
